At SLCC, architecture students enjoy creative problem-solving, drawing, digital designs, and collaboration related to the AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) industry as well as the history and practice of architecture. Students take challenging classes, receive critiques to expand their vision, are encouraged to work outside of their comfort zone and will create meticulously crafted projects.

MISSION
UVU’s Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) is a five-year professional degree that prepares students for leadership in the profession of architecture and urban design. The program promotes a built environment that bolsters genuine communities through durable, useful, beautiful, and human-scaled architecture. The degree is rooted in classical and traditional architecture.

The University of Utah School of Architecture is receiving a permanent endowment from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Utah chapter to support underrepresented students
in the field.

During the last year, four new endowed scholarships were established to provide scholarship funding to SoA grad students. An endowed scholarship is a donation that is invested by the university, and the interest generated is used to fund scholarships each year. By endowing a scholarship, donors can make a lasting difference by helping deserving students over a long period of time and receive a tax deduction along the way. It is a wonderful way to make a lasting impact because colleges can rely on this funding perpetually.

What led you to architecture? Why did you choose to become an academic in this field?
I was interested in art and design from an early age. My passion for artistic expression and design began in elementary school – I had a wonderful art teacher who exposed us to drawing, art history, the history of the built environment and different architectural styles. But the older I got, I also gained an interest in science, math, and technical areas. I was always the nerdy kid who represented my schools at math and science competitions.

George (Jud) Daniels, FAIA (1927-2022) George (Jud) Daniels, FAIA, was born in Salt Lake City and grew up in Sugar House. He served in the Second World War and, upon returning home, graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Utah in Architecture.
